What it leaves out is that "no prep" does not mean "no criteria." The tooth receiving the veneer still has to present adequate enamel for bonding, a healthy pulp, and a position in the arch that can accommodate the added thickness without disrupting the bite.

In clinical terms, the bonding strength of any ceramic veneer depends almost entirely on the quality of the enamel substrate. The margin between the veneer and the tooth is sealed at bonding, but it is not indestructible. Habits that repeatedly stress that margin shorten the clinical life of the restoration. I always give patients a written protocol after placement, and I review it at every follow-up.

  • Non-abrasive toothpaste only: standard whitening toothpastes with abrasive particles can dull the ceramic surface and, over years, contribute to margin wear.
